Wild & Rooted
Information
Wild Roots offers a unique, nature-based, poetic approach to classical education one that takes place outdoors, in rhythm with the seasons, and in harmony with the child’s natural stages of growth.
Born from a longing for slower days and a more rooted way of learning, Wild Roots is devoted to nurturing attention, imagination, and a sense of place through the steady rhythms of creation.
Children grow through the classical stages of learning, known as the Trivium:
Grammar Stage (~ages 5–9): A time of wonder, naming, and living stories
Logic Stage (~ages 10–13): A time of questions, connections, and thoughtful conversation
Rhetoric Stage (~ages 14–17): A time of reflection, expression, and guiding others
At Wild Roots, children of all ages learn alongside one another through shared experience: nature study, storytelling, journaling, song, and hands-on outdoor skills. From fort building to firecraft, whittling to wildcraft, we believe these practices don’t just build confidence, they restore a child’s sense of belonging in creation. Our nature study approach is inspired by Charlotte Mason, John Senior and Anna Botsford Comstock, inviting both children and mother-teacher to slow down, observe with care, and form lasting relationships with the living things around them.
If your family is seeking a grounded, poetic, and rooted way to cultivate truth, beauty, and goodness, we invite you to join us for this founding season.
Please note: Wild Roots is not a drop-off program. Parents or caregivers stay and participate alongside their children, creating a shared learning experience for the whole family.
🗓 Summer registration is open and closes June 18th.
After that, the next opportunity to join will be for the Fall season.

Hello, I’m Sarah Langan, mother, teacher, and founder of Wild Roots Classical.
Wild Roots began as a quiet longing in my own life for slower days, sacred rhythms, and time in nature with my children. What started with just my family has gently grown into a Rochester-based homeschool community rooted in beauty, truth, and wonder. As a mother of two, one grown and one still at my side, I walk this journey with both fresh eyes and seasoned wisdom. With a background in Fine Art and a deep reverence for the created world, I bring creativity and intention to each day we share. Wild Roots is an invitation to return to what matters most… presence, imagination, movement, and connection. Inspired by the living ideas of Charlotte Mason and the natural order of creation, we learn side by side in the wild and sacred classroom of the outdoors, in rhythm with the seasons and the soul of the child. I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s walk this path together.
